Phil Holt Art For Purchase
Phil Holt is the tattoo artist's tattooist. Tattooing for over 12 years professionally and in a variety of styles, he can take a Tonya-Harding-dressed-as-the-devil half sleeve and make it into a beautiful biomechanical work of art.
Recently, Phil put up a number of his fine art for sale online -- magical works, from his limited edition giclee dragon and monster prints to his breathtaking Original Sin original watercolor to my most favorite, the last of his enamel on steel angels. All can be purchased through his site except the watercolor, which is available through Canvas Los Angeles.
As Phil wrote on his blog in March, he and his family have had to move back to Tampa, Florida -- away from Skull & Sword in San Fran -- until he can sell his home (which he says is short of full scale foreclosure). Thus, by purchasing these stellar works of art, you'll also be supporting a member of the tattoo community caught in the midst of this housing crisis.

Etsy Shopping Picks
Some see retail therapy as evidence of the ills of capitalism, a plague on society, or a personal disorder in itself. I see it as a reward for working my butt off. Pavlovian, maybe. But creative accessorizing is a girl's best friend. Yet, instead of forkin over my hard earned dolla, dolla bills to the mega retailers, I prefer to do business with indie artisans, and if you read Needled with some regularity, you know my fave place to do that online is Etsy.
For today, I've searched the vast array of art and goods on the site to come up with my favorite shopping picks for y'all, so put down the Prozac and whip out the PayPal.
First, let's start with a sale and head to Ahpeele where their hand-screened clothing in popular tattoo motifs like the Japanese Koi (shown here) or sugar skull customize the super soft and sweatshop-free tees, tanks, polos, hoodies and even baby onesies of the American Apparel brand.
