Phil Holt Art For Purchase

Phil Holt is the tattoo artist's tattooist. Tattooing for over 12 years professionally and in a variety of styles, he can take a Tonya-Harding-dressed-as-the-devil half sleeve and make it into a beautiful biomechanical work of art.

Recently, Phil put up a number of his fine art for sale online -- magical works, from his limited edition giclee dragon and monster prints to his breathtaking Original Sin original watercolor to my most favorite, the last of his enamel on steel angels. All can be purchased through his site except the watercolor, which is available through Canvas Los Angeles.

As Phil wrote on his blog in March, he and his family have had to move back to Tampa, Florida -- away from Skull & Sword in San Fran -- until he can sell his home (which he says is short of full scale foreclosure). Thus, by purchasing these stellar works of art, you'll also be supporting a member of the tattoo community caught in the midst of this housing crisis.

Grime is still keeping Phil's position at Skull & Sword open, while he currently works at his former ...

Dan Marshall & Liorcifer Art Show

We arrived back in Brooklyn and just in time for a truly anticipated exhibition of new paintings by Dan Marshall & Liorcifer (formerly of Last Rites) this Saturday, May 3rd at our home away from home, Tattoo Culture in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

It's an exciting show featuring harrowing and hallucinogenic imagery, the signature macabre creations Marshall and Liorcifer are known for in their fine art and tattoo work. The opening is from 7-10 PM, and the exhibit will run until June 21st.

Speaking of tattoo work, while these artist along with Tim Kern search for a physical space for their Tribulation Tattoo, you can book appointments with Dan Marshall at Tattoo Culture; Liorcifer is at Fat Cat Tattoo in Astoria, Queens, and Tim is taking appointments in his private studio. That is, when they're all not on the road at numerous conventions and guest spots.

Also check out the portfolios of Tattoo Culture's resident artists Dave C. Wallin and Gene Coffey. They'll be at the NYC Tattoo Convention May 16-18. [Their badass Brooklyn hoodies will be on sale at their booth as well.]

Paul Booth's Inner Child

Paul Booth, the Dark Lord of Tattooing, will present 10 new oil paintings, a collection called Inner Child, at the Strychnin Gallery in Berlin. Gallery owner, Yasha Schulz-Young, is expecting a crowd on May 19th, opening night, and says the media attention has been overwhelming. In an artist statement, Paul reveals the impetus for this series:

"All of my life, I have strived to face and understand my demons and through the creation of art, I have found a way to come to terms with many of my painful issues. By releasing my feelings into paintings, I am able to confront my problems and slowly free myself from their power. This collection, which I call Inner Child, is a series of paintings that do just that. It has been difficult to immerse myself in these dark places from my past, but displaying these pieces plays an integral part of this exorcism for me."

Paul will be attending the opening and signing limited edition prints of two of the paintings as well as the show catalog. The first 30 people at the gallery on May 19, from 7pm-10pm, will also receive his CD of industrial and ambient sounds entitled My Ritean ...
